Amy Thomas – Director

If you want someone in your corner when it comes to figuring out a way forward, Amy is that person. As director of KYN, she's built her practice around helping clients develop the tools they need to grow, not just keeping the books in order.

Her career started in audit in Auckland in 2005, before a move into commerce as a company accountant for a small pet product wholesaler. After a break to have her children, she returned to practice in business advisory and compliance at a small firm in Pukekohe. A family move to Hawkes Bay followed, where she eventually joined Accountants Hawkes Bay as an associate and later director, before stepping out to found KYN.

No two days look the same, which is exactly how Amy likes it. Her time is split between clients, her team, and keeping the wheels turning across both. The part she finds most rewarding is sitting down with someone who has a business goal or a problem they can't see past, and helping them find a path through.

Her first year running KYN is the achievement she's most proud of right now, and it's not hard to see why.

Outside work, she spends time with friends and family, travels when she can, and trains. She also does Taekwon-Do with her kids and holds a second dan black belt, which probably explains the calm under pressure.

Lisa Dooney– Chartered Accountant

Some of Lisa's client relationships stretch back over 25 years, which tells you something about how she works.

She spent more than 30 years in chartered accounting practices, before which she was an Investigating Accountant with IRD. She's also been part of starting up three CA practices over her career. KYN, she says, was the smoothest of the three, thanks to strong teamwork and good systems.

Day to day, Lisa handles the full range of compliance work including financial statements and tax returns, alongside staying on top of client queries as they come in. What she enjoys most is the relationship side of the work, sitting down with clients, helping them understand their financials, and taking the stress out of that side of their business.

Outside work, family comes first, including a three-year-old grandson who no doubt keeps her busy. She's also a keen cyclist and combines that passion with travel overseas when she can.

Sue Warner– Office Manager

Sue keeps everything and everyone running smoothly at KYN, which in a busy accounting practice is no small task.

She came to the role after 26 years in the printing industry and an OE in the UK with her husband, and has been with the team for 12 months now. Her days are a mix of administrative coordination and making sure everything falls into place so the rest of the team can do their work. No two days look the same, which suits her well.



Outside work, Sue is usually somewhere between the garden and a café. She loves a bike ride, especially when there's a good brunch spot along the way, and spends her time with family and friends.
